Nathalie Veillette

Nathalie Veillette developed the Functional Status Assessment for Seniors in the Emergency Department (FSAS-ED), in collaboration with Louise Demers, Elizabeth Dutil and Jane McCusker. The tool was then translated into English and validated in collaboration with Leanne Leclair, Marlene Stern, Ashley Struthers, Valerie Pion and Marie-Josée Sirois.

Nathalie Veillette is an Associate Professor at the Université de Montréal School of Rehabilitation, as well as an Investigator at the Research Centre of the Institut universitaire de gériatrie de Montréal. Nathalie Veillette is also involve as co-investigator in the «Canadian Emergency Team Initiative (CETI)». 

She has trained in both psychology (Master’s degree in Neuropsychology) and occupational therapy and received her Ph.D. in biomedical sciences from Montreal University in 2008.  She was also involved as a founding member in starting the occupational therapy program at UQTR, where she worked for 6 years.

Since 1996, Nathalie Veillette has practiced as an occupational therapist-clinician in acute-care hospitals as well as in community-based settings. While acquiring this diverse work experience, she specialized in emergency department practice. Her research focus mainly on the assessment of the functional status of older adults in the emergency department, as well as knowledge transfer between researchers and the knowledge users who would benefit from it to provide more effective health services.

Nathalie Veillette received in 2016 the Betty Havens Award for Knowledge Translation in Aging, awarded by the Institute of Aging Institute of Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR). The award recognizes individuals, teams or organizations who have advanced the application of aging research at the local or regional level. As recipient,  Ms. Veillette will be provided financial assistance to further promote excellence and innovation in knowledge translation activities related to her research, which focus on assessing the functional status of Seniors in Emergency Department.
